As you can tell, I’ve been buying more blushes than lipsticks (oh, the horror!) and let me tell you that blushes are strangely addictive, but I can’t figure out why either.

A few years ago, my friend A told me about these famous blushes from J-beauty brand Canmake, and it got me pretty interested back then, but I never got around to buying them until I saw them on discount in Taiwan.

This blush is said to be the top pick in Japanese and Taiwanese drugstores (I’ll talk a little more about why not Korean drugstores), so naturally I had to give this a shot and see if it really lives up to its hype.

Ingredient List

See full list of ingredients and ingredient safety ratings here.

There are a few ingredients that are potentially bad for oily skin and can be comedogenic, including shea butter, but I think they’re generally consistent with what you’ll find in gel products.

As you can tell, I have a clear favourite.

Just like most other J-beauty products, this one is flawless – the jewel-like lid is made only better by the gorgeous blush colours within.

On a more practical note, I have no issues with opening and closing the lid – tight enough to stay shut, but easy enough to open without using too much strength.

Plus, it also comes in a very light and portable packaging, so you can definitely pop this in your makeup pouch easily.

CL06 Clear Sugar is a light and bright pop of bubblegum pink, whereas #15 Antique Milk Rose leans towards a nude pink.

I found out that shades beginning with ‘CL’ are meant to be more matte, whereas the original shades have a little shimmer to them. Personally I think the difference is not that big, unless you pile on a lot of colour.

As you can tell from the swatches, #15 is my preferred pick due to the fact that it better complements my darker and warmer skin tone. CL06 looks very fresh and radiant on those who have lighter skin colours and/or cool skin tones – pretty unfair, but life’s like that :/

Colour payoff & intensity

This is my first time using a gel/cream blush so I wasn’t quite sure exactly what kind of colour intensity to expect, but I did think that it is pretty good – in fact, might be even better than some of the liquid blushes I’ve used!

On that note, I also wanted to point out that K-beauty blushes generally fall into powder blushes or liquid blushes – I don’t know exactly why, but that’s just how it rolls, and also probably a top reason why this blush isn’t a best-seller in Korea (I’ve heard that they love Clinique’s Cheek Pop to bits, FYI).

Staying power

I haven’t found any need to touch up on my blush, so I think it’s all good in this aspect.

A good tip from me is to lightly dust some setting powder on top to lock it in if you’re worried, but take note not to put on too much if you have pores that are easily/already clogged!

Final Verdict

While I found out that cream/gel blushes are not exactly the cleanest to work with because you have to use your fingers, I do like the Canmake Cream Cheek’s formula because it is very very easy to blend, and it gives a nice healthy sheen on your skin that almost looks as though you have dewy skin.

I didn’t have much say in the shades during my purchase because there were really limited shades on sale, but you’ll be pretty sure that I’ll be buying other shades in the (near) future.
